The rugged beauty of the west coast’s sweeping romantic views and the delicate lingering blossoms of the otherworldly superbloom serve as a breathtaking backdrop for our Pre-Spring 2024 collection. The dappled rock outcroppings of Malibu Park are reflected in tranquil, reflecting pools, while windswept hills and swaying grasses echo the fluttering hems and textured surfaces of body skimming frocks and richly varied fabrications. Julia Noni’s soft lens captures the fine, delicate details of intricate hand-embroidery across water washed poplin frocks, sunlight-hued lurex jacquard, and mesmerizing geometric motifs in rippling devoré and shibori-printed frocks and separates. Models Yoonmi, Emily, and Anyiang bring the silhouettes to life against the rolling fields, waving foliage, and boundless skies.
In celebration of these radiant landscapes and the inaugural Ulla Johnson Los Angeles flagship—opening in Summer 2023—the collection re-envisions the natural world’s textures and hues as if lit up by the sun’s rays, a flickering series of sumptuous dresses, vibrant prints, painterly palettes, and extensive embroidery, all made to shine. A palette grounded in cool greens and rich browns—reminiscent of the campaign’s landscape—is illuminated by painterly florals and flickering metallics. Earthy and iridescent, the season’s silhouettes speak to a lyrical juxtaposition of traditional techniques seen through modern shapes. Johnson’s deft ability to infuse tradition with imaginative technique defines the latest season. A deep love for the California coast’s unique beauty crafts this season’s ode to the sun, a profoundly expressive yet graphically bold collection, kissed with sunshine.
